CPN Cultural Heritage Center - Shawnee, OK - History Museums on Waymarking.com

The Citizen Pottawatomie Nation (CPN) Cultural Heritage Museum is located at 1899 S. Gordon Cooper Drive (Highway 18), south of Shawnee. This is a large (36,000 sq. ft.) center whose Mission Statement is: “The Citizen Potawatomi Nation Cultural Heritage Center serves to educate tribal members and the public on the historical and contemporary aspects of the tribe through the acquisition, preservation, exhibition, and exploration of the diverse materials pertaining to the culture and traditions of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.“

The Center includes a museum of artifacts, a Research Library and Archives, Family Research Center, and a Veteran's Wall of Honor describing the accomplishments of Tribal veterans. The Tribal Rolls are all located in the CPN Cultural Heritage Center.

There is a large meeting hall known as The Long Room which can seat 600 for dining, or 900 in theater-type seating. Many functions are held here, including the annual General Council in June.

The museum is in the process of digitally converting all their museum collection, archives and library so it will be accessible on the Internet.

Admittance to the museum is Free, however, donations are very much appreciated.
