This Gold Award Project at Lake Thunderbird is one of four within about 1/5 mile from each other. Three projects (One Gold, Two Eagle) are around the nature center, and this one is a little bit south of there, along the Clear Bay Trail.
The project was to build a bird-watching wall in the park. It is a great way for youngsters to observe the wildlife and birds without disturbing them. Several cut-outs (for viewing) are along the wall, of varying sizes and heights. This project was decided upon after discussing the park needs with the park naturalist.

The bird-viewing wall is approximately 20 feet long and 8 feet tall, of light colored wood. In the far upper left corner is a sign giving information on several Oklahoma birds that can be viewed here: Brown Thrasher, American Goldfinch, American Robin, Carolina Wren, House Sparrow, and others.

Based on the date in an online article, the project was done sometime in the past several months prior to April 2010. Lake Thunderbird State Park is off of Highway 9, east of Norman. This is a very large and nice state park, and the Clear Bay area has boat storage, riding stables, nature center, RV camping, and many more recreational facilities.
