The pass is connecting the Adige-valley (Etschtal) from Merano over Lana to Fondo in the Non-Valley (val di Non).
From Lana to the pass there are 1202 meters of difference.
Time ago, in 1810 to 1815 it was the border between Bavaria and the napoleonic state.
At the pass you can find also a old bunker from 1940, sometimes is open for various exhibitions.
