This marker lies near another Tercentenary marker on the west side of Monument Square, along Main Street. It commemorates the Milldam, and reads:
"This short stretch of street still known as the Milldam was the site of an Indian fishing weir and was laid out along the dam built soon after the settlement of the town in 1635."
It seems that the downtown shopping area around there is known as the Milldam in some sense, although I'm not entirely sure on that point.

Visit Instructions:
When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. The picture does not have to be of the marker - one picture of the marker is enough. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
