The sound of children at play has graced life in Boulder City since the earliest residents arrived. The town, however, was not initially prepared for youngsters, Original city plans did not include any schools. Families took matters into their own hands, establishing a school in a small house and, later, in a ranger station. These facilities were inadequate and quickly became overcrowded. Finally in 1932, a two story brick elementary school was built with federal funds. To commemorate the milestone, the date '1932' was designed into the brickwork on the east wall. Today the historic schoolhouse serves as the city hall.
