Chartier Concession (marker text) - Pierre Chartier de Baulne, French Louisiana attorney general in 1719, held the earliest land grant at the former village of the Colapissa on Chapitoulas (Metairie) Road. His family first colonists to live nearby.

Although the 17th Street Canal is generally known as the boundary dividing Orleans and Jefferson Parishes, Jefferson Parish actually extends a few feet on the Orleans side of the canal.

This marker was erected by the Jefferson Parish Historical Commission.
