He was born (1853) as Emil Fryda but when he started to write poetry he chose pseudonyme Vrchlický according a small river Vrchlice which is running in beatiful valley just under one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - town Kutná Hora. The valley was very favourite place for Jaroslav Vrchlicky and just four years after his death (1912) local teacher and amateur sculptor J. Chvojan engraved in rock large wall portrait of Jaroslav Vrchlicky.
