The F-4 Phantom II was the predicesor the the FH-1 Phantom. Both the Navy and Air Force used F-4s. The Navy one being designated F-4B and the Air Force F-4C.
It was origanally designed for air defense, but later could drop bombs and be used for tactical reconnaissance. Altogether it has broken 16 world records for speed and altitude. It is still used in some countries.
The plaque has fallen off. This plane can only be viewed from the cadet area lookout next to the chapel. From the visitors center coordinates N 39°00.438 W 104°53.699 take the Chapel Trail.
