The parking lot in the photos is for St. Paul Lutheran Church. Although, I am told, this cemetery does not belong to the church. The church cemetery is just west of town a ½ mile from here. This, seemingly empty lot is a pioneer cemetery that has not be active for many, many years.
Text of Sign:
In memory of the many unknown Lutherans who lie here as a result of the Cholera Epidemics in the early 1800s.
Ever Ruthen in FriedenAround the base of the statue reads: NEW HOPES
NEW DREAMS
NEW MELLE
Statue is of a pioneer woman and child, standing on a bible, in front of which is a 3-masted schooner. Religious freedom, resulted in death.
Plaques on the monument are not as I hoped, the names of the dead, but mearly the names of who spent money to erect the statue.
