This time capsule was placed in September of 1992 to celebrate 50 years of the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) of Johns Hopkins University.

It was placed by the Staff of the Johns Hopkins University APL, under the direction of Gary L. Smith.

It is scheduled to be opened in 2042 (after another 50 years has elapsed).
