The occupiers of the farm house had to fortify their property to rebuff the raiders who came across the Solway Firth looking to rustle live stock. A license to crenellate was granted in 1307. They would have lived on the upper floors, leaving the ground floor to the raiders. Originally there would have been a small single door to the the first floor. Easily defended with an easily withdrawn ladder. Grade 1 listed building.
The pump is to the left of the main staircase to the front door, now that the Scots are our friendly neighbours.
Can not park at Drumburgh Castle. Park before or after on the side of the road.
