New Oxford, 46.9 m. (560 alt, 1138 pop.), lid out in 1792, is an attractive town built around a neat square. Situated in a rich fruitgrowing section, New Oxford has a small cannery, but the principal support is from the two shoe factories, two clothing factories, a cigar factory, and a near-by brickyard and lime plant. --- Pennsylvania: A Guide to the Keystone State, 1940; page 445
I stumbled upon this small town of a few thousand while on my way to Gettysburg. The town square, a rotary with a beautiful fountain and park in the center was the main attraction for me. Wiki tells us Within New Oxford there are several large manufacturing plants. Among these are Winter Gardens, which manufactures products such as chicken salad; Yazoo Mills, which manufactures paper products; Pilgrim's Pride, which processes turkeys; and Aero Energy, which refurbishes propane and C02 containers for Blue Rhino.
