Connellsville was established by Zachariah Connell in 1806, and was incorporated into a Borough at that time. In 1901, the first City Hall was built at this site. In 1909, after a special election, New Haven, a small Borough across the river from then-Connellsville Borough, was absorbed, and created into a third-class city, becoming Fayette County's First "City" that same year.
The current City Hall was constructed in 1976 and is complete with Council Chambers, Offices for Council, Tax Collection, Fiscal Staff, and the City Clerk on the Upper Level. On the Lower Level, the Police Department has their headquarters. A sub-terrainian garage, with cement plaza above was also completed that year.
