"Wetlands Teem with life
Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world, comparable to rain forests and coral reefs.
Did you know?
Nearly 50 percent of all wetlands on hte Manti-La Sal National Forest are in the Miller Flat area. Wetlands filter water before it reaches open water, trapping sediment and contaminants. Wetlands are natural sponges that trap and slowly release surface water, preventing flooding. Damaging wetlands is a federal offense punishable by a fine and restitution. Horseback riding, cycling and driving through wetlands can destroy this important habitat. Some wetland plants may have medicinal value. Wetlands provide food, shelter, and water for 90 percent of Utah's wildlife. Most bird species feed, nest and raise their yound in wetlands. More than one-third of the United State's threatened and endangered species live only in wetlands."
