Mythic Messengers - Exact Replicas on Waymarking.com

Reid's lively bronze frieze "Mythic Messengers" (1984), commissioned for Teleglobe Canada's International Centre in Burnaby, B.C. (with a duplicate installed at the Canadian Museum of Civilization), had been similarly inspired -- it is very reminiscent of an argillite panel pipe, but on a monumental scale and with greater fluidity of form and complexity of design.


Bill Reid said “this work was inspired by a device often used by Haida artists, an exchange of tongues, whereby power was communicated from one mythic creature to another. At a deeper level, the power of these old forms, born of a mythological past, reinterpreted through new materials and techniques, in a contemporary setting, can still speak to us across time, space, and enormous cultural differences.”
