This giant board game is an appropriately nautical themed one called 'Sail Away' and is located on the top floor in Poole Museum. It is free to explore the museum and it is open everyday in the summer with Mondays closed in the winter.

Lying in the middle of the floor this board game involves role-play as you become captain of a sailing boat and sail from Poole to Newfoundland. The journey is frought with danger as you race your opponent to your destination.
A suspended panel holds spinners from where you select a card and spin the dial to use it like a dice to count the number of spaces you can move. Then you follow the instructions on the board. Dangers include weather conditions, mechanical failure and attacks requiring you to go back, whilst rewards include successful trading.
The board game is evocative of life in Poole on the seas and is an educational journey popular with the family.
