The Morgan County Court House was built in 1858 at a cost of $10,000. The Greek Classic building has been substantially transformed over the years. While some classic forms remain, such as the portico supported by four columns, Second Empire elements appeared, such as a bracketed cornice and a clock tower with mansard roof. The clock arrived on a boat from Zanesville, twenty-seven miles upstream from McConnelsville, on the Muskingum River - after the ice melted in March 1886.
