A sculpture of a gopher tortoise is located in Oceanfront Park in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, USA. The sign posted by the statue is for sea turtles, which have flippers, not legs, so this one is definitely mislabeled.

A paved path makes a circle though the park and several wildlife sculptures are located along it, including this one. A sign near this sculpture provides life history information about sea turtles, which is not what this sculpture represents. However, sea turtles do nest on the adjacent beach so the information about them should be interesting to park visitors.

Sign by tortoise statue that incorrectly identifies it as a sea turtle.

There is no information available about this statue or the artist who created it.
