This marker is located in the town of Burbank, SD. It is near the old school on the corner of White Street and Madison Street.
“On May 8, 1833, the American Fur Co. steamer Yellowstone stopped on the river bank to the south and put Francois LeRoi ashore to set up a fur post which remained as such until 1851. In

1845, James Emmett led a party of 200 Mormons west from Nauvoo, Illinois and they wintered 1845-46 at Fort Vermillion.”

 Marker Text: On May 8, 1833, the American Fur Co. steamer Yellowstone stopped on the river bank to the south and put Francois LeRoi ashore to set up a fur post which remained as such until 1851. In 1845, James Emmett led a party of 200 Mormons west from Nauvoo, Illinois and they wintered 1845-46 at Fort Vermillion.
