Antiquary

He was noted for his study and research of antiquities.  He exhaustive research resulted in the publishing of  The History and Antiquities of the University of Oxford (1674) and Athenae Oxonienses (1691) in which he documented the lives and publications of over 1500 writers associated with Oxford University.  He also did extensive research and documenting the city of Oxford.
