“HAND MADE SANDSTONE CHIMNEY”
Constructed 1936 – 1937
This chimney was removed from the home site of Woolery D. Bowling
at Bowlings Branch located near Buckhorn Lodge. Woolery D. or
“Dutch” as he was know, built the chimney with the help of his
oldest son, Lester. It took about one year to build, as all the
rocks were hand cut. Dutch, his wife, and nine children warmed
themselves around this chimney for many years. The house was
occupied by them until 1958 when the land was acquired for buckhorn
Lake. The chimney, reconstructed in 1977, is an excellent example
of local stonework and a fine memorial to Dutch and all the people
displaced by Buckhorn Lake.
