East Side Old Territorial Road 1848-1865

This old stage road followed the early Indian trails at the base of the foothills about 11/2 miles east of this point. The osage orange hedge along its roadside was planted in 1854.
On this road almost due east in the home of Mitchell Wilkins, pioneer of 1845, was located the Willamette Fork Post Office.
On the same road toward the south at “Sunny Ridge” was the boyhood home of “The Poet of the Sierras” Joaquin Miller 1852-1856
