The Sailor was called The Sailor Boy not too long ago, and along with The Anchor and The Ship (now The Millstream), makes up the three pubs within a very small radius.

I fancy that the naming of these three pubs on a nautical theme, placed so close together, indicates some link with the sea, perhaps returning sailors or recruitment. Or perhaps no more than a joke since the nearest sea is about 50 miles away as the crow flies.

And maybe it is just me, but was the model for this sign, ex-prime minister John Major?
Name of Artist: Rob Rowland.

Date of current sign: 2006.

Date of first pub on site: Not known.
