Memorial stadium in Lincoln Nebraska is the home of the Huskers. The NCAA Division 1 football team of the University of Nebraska. The stadium was built in 1923 with an original seating capacity of 31,080 fans. The stadium has expanded nine times since 1964 to the current capacity of 81067. The stadium was named Memorial Stadium to honor all Nebraskans who served in the Civil and Spanish-American Wars and the 751 Nebraskans who died in World War I. Later, the stadium would also honor the 3,839 Nebraskans who died in World War II; the 225 in Korea; and the 422 in Vietnam.
The stadium holds an NCAA record for most consecutive sellouts. The number of sold out home games exceeded 300 in the fall of 2009 and currently stands at 308.
Memorial stadium is opened for tours. The self-guided tour takes fans into the Stadium, with limited field access, at Gate 24 (when no teams are practicing) and around the stadium. Guided Tours are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. for groups of 10 or more. Appointments are required for Guided Tours, information can be found on the Huskers.com web page.
