First furnace to use only anthracite for fuel, 1836. Built by Dr. F.W. Geissenhainer, who patented the method in 1833. Process in use continuously by the Pottsville or Pioneer Furnace, 1839 and after.
Once again the signs confuse me. This sign says it was the first furnace to use anthracite coal for fuel and Geissenhainer patented his method. While doing research for "the rest of the story" I found out that the Pottsville/Pioneer Furnace won a contest saying it was the first successful furnace to use anthracite for fuel. So, I guess, the difference is Valley Furnace wasn't successful at it.
SO TO LOG YOUR FIND TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF AND THE SIGN!!!!!
