Battambang is the second largest city in Cambodia, with a population of ~250,000. The principal industry of the region is agriculture, the cultivation of rice. Battambang province has been referred to as the 'rice bowl' of Cambodia. Visitors find that Battambang is a quiet, respectable city. Not too many bars, and not too many tourist attractions. However, the economy of the city and region are both developing and the city is slowly becoming busier. A pleasant place to spend a few days.
The city offices are a small affair close to the city centre, in the respectable part of town, near the museum and other public buildings.
