"Unhinged" was filmed at the 1914 22-room Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon. The film tells the story of three young women who crashed their car in a blustery rainstorm and wake up in a mysterious old mansion in a remote wooded location miles from the nearest village. They do not realize the violence in store for them. But we do. The DVD cover depicts the bloody face of a young woman with the words "The Nightmare Begins When You Wake Up."I paused the film "Unhinged" several times to take digital photos of Pittock Mansion and the caretaker’s cottage. The film used the same three exterior shots over and over again. The interior shots took place near the fireplace in the library, the harpsichord in the music room and in a bed of an upstairs bedroom.
The Mansion is open for public viewing from 12-4 p.m. September-May, and 11-4 June-August. It is closed major holidays, a few days in late November for holiday decorating, and the month of January for maintenance. There is an admission fee. However you can wander around the grounds for free. Enjoy a sweeping view of mountains, rivers, and the city of Portland. Gates close at 9:00 p.m.
