Erected in 1888 by Wisconsin, this monument honors their brave sons who fought here at the Battle of Gettysburg from July 1 to July 3, 1863. The monument was dedicated June 30, 1888, a day short of the 25-year anniversary of the Battle.

The 7th WI Infantry was one of The regiments that made up The Union's famous "Iron Brigade" along with The 2nd WI, 6th WI, 19th IN and The 24th MI their initial training was conducted at Camp Randall in Madison, WI in 1861. The marker is on Meredith Avenue, on the right when traveling south, located in the Herbst Farm Woods (also called McPherson's or Reynolds' Woods) in Gettysburg National Military Park. The monument is one of six honoring Wisconsin troops who participated in the Gettysburg campaign. It marks the advance positions of the 7th Wisconsin Infantry on July 1, 1863.
The monument is topped by a symbol of the Iron Brigade. Lower on the shaft is a circle, the symbol of the I Corps. The sculpture is made of red granite with a regular granite base. The five-pointed insignia of the Iron Brigade stands atop a two-course pedestal and tiered, rough-hewn base. There are decorative emblematic reliefs on three sides of the monument.
The sculpture is approximately 11 ft. 4 in. x 2 ft. 5 in. x 2 ft. 5 in. and the base is approximately W. 4 ft. 6 in. x 4 ft. 6 in. The sculpture was fabricated by B & M Granite Company.
There are inscription on all four sides. They read:
