There is plenty of parking not far from the slipway at Calstock. It is a good paddle up to the weir if you plan to leave Calstock about two hours before high tide. Aim to go on a spring tide as this will enable you to get right up to the front of the weir. On neap tides there are a couple of tidal weirs in your way. On your way up the river you will pass some great wooded areas which are fabulous in the autumn. Also of interest is Morwellham quay which is worth a visit in itself. Sadly you cannot land at Morwellham these days so a trip by car will be neccesary.
The trip can be extended by a few miles by launching at Cotehele quay but The Nation Trust prefer you to ask permission first. This normally freely given.
