"The Haunting of Sarah Hardy" was filmed at 1914 22-room Pittock Mansion in Portland, Oregon. However, "The Haunting of Sarah Hardy" moved the chateauesque residence to the ocean cliffs and renamed it "The Pines." The gothic, suspense film made extensive use of both the interior and the exterior of the mansion, and the grounds. Sela Ward starred as beautiful, vulnerable heiress Sarah Hardy, recently wed and returning to her isolated childhood house, The Pines, to claim her vast inheritance. But something--or someone--evil waits there to drive Sarah into madness. Or murder.
The Mansion is open for public viewing 12-4 p.m. September-May, and 11-4 June-August. It is closed major holidays, a few days in late November for holiday decorating, and the month of January for maintenance. There is an admission fee. However you can roam around the grounds for free. Enjoy a sweeping view of mountains, rivers, and the city of Portland. Gates close at 9:00 p.m.
