Opened in 1988, the Hawaii Maritime Center was the primary maritime museum in Hawaii until it closed in 2009. While the future status of the museum is in doubt, the roadside sign is still present. At the site is the Falls of Clyde, an old four-masted sailing ship. The ship is currently in disrepair, but is now owned by a non-profit group intending to restore her.
