In Newton, at the intersection of Needham St., Winchester St., and Dedham St., is a modest sized cemetery bounded by a chain-linked fence. This cemetery is the South Burying Ground, sometimes also referred to as the Evergreen Cemetery or Winchester Street Cemetery, within the city of Newton.
The Newton History Museum web site has a small paragraph about this cemetery. It was started in 1804 by Newton Upper Falls residents, then deeded to the town 30 years later. According to the list referenced by the web site, there are over 300 people buried there. Some are veterans of the American Revolutionary War - these are decorated with flags.
In general, the cemetery is kept adequately, though volunteer groups (such as one that I was with at one time) do yard work to improve the appearance. For the most part, the cemetery fence gates are locked, but you can see a lot from the sidewalk.
