Antoine Poncet was a French sculptor, born in Paris in 1928. He was the son of Swiss painter and glazier Marcel Poncet and Anne-Marie daughter of Maurice Denis Denis. Antoine Poncet was discovered at the age of 14, first with Casimir Reymond in Lausanne, then with Germaine Richier in Zurich (1942). He is an alumnus of the School of Fine Arts in Lausanne (French: École des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne), which he attended from 1942 to 1945.
In 1965 he was commissioned by American collector and patron Nathan Cummins for the manufacture of 18 marble statues. The contract stipulated that Poncet could work in the studio of Carlo Nicoli (Nicoli Studi) in the marble quarries of Carrara in Italy. Antoine Poncet is a member of the Institute of France. He was named president of the Academie des Beaux Arts in 2009 and has been a member of the sculpture section of the French Academy of Fine Arts since 1993.
