Reed City is a small city located in the southwest corner of Osceola County in the west central portion of Michigan's lower peninsula.
The City had a population of 2,430 in 2000. Richmond Township, which surrounds the City, has a very similar population. Reed City was incorporated in 1875 and has maintained a stable population for most of the past 125 years. It is the County seat of Osceola County.
Reed City is a crossroads community because it was originally at the intersection of two railroad systems that bisected the State. It is now at the crossroads of two major U.S. Highways 131 and 10. This provides easy access to other parts of the State. The City is within an hours drive from Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Midland. Two famous Rails-To-Trails intersect at the location of the former railroads making it the center of the premier trails system in the State. The Pere Marquette and the White Pine Trail cross in downtown Reed City.
Reed City is a small town, with a welcoming small-town atmosphere. It is quiet, safe,walkable and has an excellent school system, along with state of the art health care and cancer treatment facility.
