This Grade II listed building is of early C18 origin. Now much altered internally, in the 1960s, with little of importance remaining. The hotel has been extended over the years and now includes the lower building to the south in King Street and a long range in Ferry Lane. Overall it is rendered and colourwashed brick, the roof is tiled to the two front elevations, King Street and Ferry Lane, with a dormer attic, and artificial tiles to the rear. The Ferry Lane extension is of unremarkable design. The whole of the frontage can be seen from Tuesday Market.
Between the first and second storey windows is a long painted banner with the words 'Globe Hotel' in gold leaf on black ground within a roll-moulded surround.
There are quoins to the left, right and central corners of the original building and it on the 'main' corner that a lifelike and fully painted Atlas stands on an ornamental bracket supporting the globe on his back.
There are also two swinging signs proclaiming the Globe Hotel, one on each of King Street and Ferry Lane frontages.
This Wetherspoon hotel/pub retains the name of the building first recorded as the Globe Inn, in 1650.
