In the South Norwood section of Norwood, spanning Dean Street, is a nice grey-stone railroad bridge. This bridge cuts over at a slight angle relative to the road. It is hard to see from the road and from satellite images, but it appears that the bridge is supporting one track. At the top of the arch on both faces is the year, 1891. The bridge is in good condition, however, vegetation is taking root and growing on it.

The railroad that built the bridge was the Walpole and Wrentham Railroad, which built its line from 1890 to 1903. The rails branched off at Norwood Central on the Norfolk County Railroad and continued on to Wrentham and North Attleboro and ended at another railroad at Adamsdale Junction, along the same railroad. Sections were abandoned, little by little, starting with the westernmost sections in 1963. Sections up to East Walpole were abandoned by 1973. There is a cluster of industrial operations just beyond the bridge. It appears that track from a spur from this track has been abandoned at the Pleasant Street crossing.

The bridge is easy to drive under. Walking is also easy, though public parking is available in South Norwood, or close to US-1. The coordinates were obtained from the street.

There is a second stone bridge, a short way down the line, which crosses the Neponset River. It is a bit harder to see, however. The best place is at the Pleasant Street Bridge over the river - look west. The second set of coordinates are from Pleasant Street.
