This stadium on the waterfront street of Aotea Quay in Wellington, known affectionately as the "Cake Tin", was opened in 2000. It is officially named the Westpac Stadium.

Wellington’s Westpac Stadium was designed by Warren & Mahoney in association with Bligh Lobb Sports. and built by Fletcher Construction and opened in the year 2000, for a cost of $130m. It is affectionately known as the Cake Tin due to its outward appearance, its shape and silver coloured external walls.
Since 2000, Westpac Stadium has been the home ground of the Hurricanes and the Vodafone Wellington Lions.
It has proved a popular and highly successful venue for major sports and entertainment events in Wellington including home games of the Hurricances rugby team.
