The present church dates to the late 15th century, with restoration performed between 1879 and 1881. The style of the church is perpendicular gothic.

The layout of the church consists of a west tower with a crenelated parapet, a nave with north and south aisles and chapels, chancel, south porch and a north hearse house. The fabric of the building is millstone grit with slate roof to nave and chancel and lead roof to side aisles.

The porch of the church is embellished with a terracotta statue of St Michael over the porch gates.

There is much to see inside the church, in particular:-

An early medieval font
A 14th century chest
Several pillars in the church have niches which would originally have had images of saints in them
The sanctuary contains an array of local coats of arms
Stained glass window fragments from the 16th century and many fine stained glass windows of the early 20th century
A window ledge containing a memorial in the form of a stainless steel kingfisher
Building Materials: Stone
