Quinette Cemetery is listed as the oldest African American cemetery west of the Mississippi River. It is believed that 125-150 people are buried here, mostly in unmarked graves. In the late 1980's this cemetery was given to the city of Kirkwood after many years of neglect. Since then many improvements have been made and a very nice memorial to the 5 known veterans who are buried here.
