Pete Maravich wanted "to be remembered as a Christian,... not a basketball player."
Ref. "MARAVICH" by Wayne Federman and Marshall Terrill, p. 367
He was born in PA and played college basketball at LSU. He is the all time NCAA Division 1 scoring leader with 3667 points that averaged 44.2 points per game. This was done in a 3 year college career BEFORE the advent of the 3 point shot. Estimates done say he could have averaged over 55 points per game if there had been a 3 point shot during his career. He later played 10 years in the NBA, averaging 24.2 points per game played. "Pistol Pete" died playing a pickup basketball game, only minutes before stating, "I Feel Great"
