The clock was erected by public subscription in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. Each face of the clock bears the date an there is a plaque in the church tower that reads

TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN COMMEMORATION OF
QUEEN VICTORIA’S
JUBILEE
THE CLOCK IN THIS TOWER
WAS ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION
AD 1887

The clock strikes on the original church bell, dated 1631 and inscribed JESUS BE OUR SPEED.
