- 1914 funded as a military airfield for the K&K Army of Austria-Hungary
- 1925 the airport company was funded and in 1927 the first civil aircraft departed
- 1938 it was confiscated by the German army
- 1951 it was given back for civil use
- 1958 the paved runway(1800m), a tower and airport building were constructed
- 1965 the runway was prolonged to 2400m
- 1971 the first terminal was built
- 1981 the runway was prolonged to 2720m
- 1984 the airport had 100.000 passengers
- 1996 some additional buildings were built (fire brigade, radar, etc) and it got an own motorway exit
- 2003 the CAT II/III landing system was built
- 2005 the airport hat 522.000 passengers
