It took many years of wrangling and delays and changes in architects to finally have Colorado's State Capitol Building completed. During the latter years of the construction of the capitol building a number of events of interest occurred. The Managers then appointed F.E. Edbrooke, a prominent Denver man who had designed many local building including the Brown Palace Hotel, to be Advisory Architect. It was Edbrooke who, three years later, suggested that the dome of the Capitol be gilded with real Colorado gold. (

The gilt has had to have been restored once - the Capitol Dome and rotunda are again in serious need of repair, but money is just not available.
