Located on the corner of S. Griffin and Young, this phenomenal bronze sculpture depicts a cattle drive through Dallas. There are dozens of Longhorn Steer and three cowboys on horseback.
In Pioneer Plaza is also a waterfall and creek, aiding in the setting of a cattle drive, with the steer stopping for a drink.
This is a fantastic place to bring the whole family. The kids will enjoy hopping on the large stones to cross the creek, seeing the waterfall, and getting up close to touch the huge steer herd.
The artist (Robert Summers) shows quite a bit of detail in the steer and the cowboys on horseback. When you get up close to the cattle they look like they're staring back at you. I also really like the movement of the sculpture from on top of the hill, winding down to the creek.
At one time this was considered the largest bronze sculpture, but the Oklahoma Land Run sculpture in Bricktown (OKC) will be the largest when it is completed.
