The myth tells that in former times, the area of Klagenfurt was a swamp in which the Lindwurm lived. Every person who went down in the swamp to catch the Lindwurm was not seen alive.
But then, one farmer had an idea. He tied a cow with a long chain to a tower...with a hidden barbed hook. The farmer and some strong men hid themselves in the tower. When the Lindwurm heard the noise from the cow, he came and began to engulf the cow with the hook. The Lindwurm - now hanging on the chain could not attack anymore and so the men easily stroke him dead.
The farmer whose idea this had been, was given the tower and the surrounding area by the duke of Carinthia and from that time on, the swamp of Klagenfurt was dried up and houses could be built.
