The Marietta post office is located at 118 W. Main Street in this town of 2500.

Hours: M-F 8:30-4:30
Sat: 9:00-11:00

The Marietta post office was established on December 20, 1887. Marietta is situated at the intersection of State Highway 32 and Interstate 35, fifteen miles north of the Red River, and 114 miles south of Oklahoma City. This area was actively inhabited in the 1700s as the Red River was a travel route for French and Spanish explorers and traders.

The rich fertile land grows various crops and the abundance of open range serves large cattle ranches. The story goes that the town was named for Marie Etta, the wife of the first postmaster, Jerry Washington.

The coming of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway (later the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway) brought about economic stimulus for the town of Marietta. Cotton was the big crop. In 2004, the town was hit hard with the closing of the two major employers, Mariett Bakery and Siemens Dematic, however, in 2005 the Chicksaw Nation announced plans to convert the WinStar Casino, 14 miles south, into a Las Vegas-style venue. This plan should increase the number of jobs and tourist trade in the Marietta area.

Visitors to Marietta should visit the following:
** Just northeast of Marietta - Lake Murray State Park
** Lake Texhoma, located east of town.
** Falconhead Resort located eleven miles west with its 18-hole championship golf course.
** Love County Military Museum with items from the Revolutionary War to the present, family military history, and area law enforcement exhibits, located in a two-story, 1910 jailhouse. It is located on the southwest corner of the courthouse lawn, just behind the modern Love County jail.
** Love County Pioneer Museum, across the street from the jail.

Visit Instructions:
To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible.

A description of your Post Office is required, such as when it was built, history, outstanding or unique features, population of the city or town, just do a quick internet search and find an interesting bit of information about the city or town and add it to the long description, to make it more interesting. Even just adding in the population of the area can give others an idea of how many people this post office serves. This description should be at least three sentences.

If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
Including your gps device in the picture is not necessary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable.
