In Cambridge, mounted high on the garage of the Alewife Garage to the MBTA Red Line Station, is an 8'x80' mural with scenes around water habitats. A plaque mounted at eye-level on the ground has information about the mural.

The title is, "Citizens Protect the Natural Resources at Alewife Reservation," and it was done as a result of the Friends of Alewife Reservation Alewife Mural Arts Project. It took from June 2003 to September 2004 to complete it, and the mural was dedicated on October 22, 2004. It then lists the Artist Director, David Ficther, the Artist Coordinator, Ellen Mass, and lists of artists, sponsors, public agency donors, and sponsoring agencies and officials.

The mural is just packed with details, and only a few items will be listed here. From the left side, a fox stands in the water; a turtle climbs on a rock; ducks, geese and fish swim among canoers, redwing blackbirds perch on cattails; a muskrat wades in the water; kayakers pass by berries; people with backpacks are resting; a hand holds a snail; and a pair of falcons fly over a highway.

Just to let you know, as you stand and take in this mural, someone might strike up a conversation with you and tell you more about the Friend of Alewife Reservation (FAR) and all the activities going on to preserve it. It happened to me!
