This piece is based on the fable about the elephant and the mouse. It was sculpted by Colorado artist Daniel Ostermiller, who tries to show animals in motion in his work. (from Museum of Outdoor Arts Destination Art brochure, 2008)
I was unaware it was also a fountain until I arrived to take pictures. Because of Colorado's unpredictable climate (we can have 80° days and light freezes that night, with temps climbing back into the 80°s the next day), fountains are left operating for only a few brief months.
