Astronomy observatory

Mobile dome that houses a reflector 10" telescope, type Schmidt Cassegrain. It is installed on the roof of the main building and is equipped with connections that allow remote control and transfer of images to the auditorium.

Planetarium

An unusual installation, almost completely buried, houses a device that allows you to simulate the observable sky at any time, date or latitude. Is a valuable addition to oral presentations and an alternative to recognition of star constellations and location of objects of "deep sky" when the weather is unfavorable to observations of the real sky.

Celestial Sphere

Consisting of rings of 7.5 meters in diameter, representing the local meridian, the celestial equator, the tropics and polar circles, will - beyond the contemplation of her beauty - be used in lessons involving coordinates (geographic or celestial) and even recreational activities. An "experimenter" leaning against the backbone can see Polaris through an aperture located in the direction of the axis of rotation of the Earth - or facing south - see a star cross the local meridian and then measure their height. On the occasions of the equinoxes and the solstice, the sunlight passes - at sun noon - trough holes placed on the rim corresponding to the meridian and focuses on the center of the "ball".

Clobe

Representation of the Earth, almost two meters in diameter, is accessible by way of a ramp where you can make it turn on the throne of an axis pointing to the pole and with an inclination corresponding to the local latitude. The "experimenters" may thus find one or another continent (in relief), or sea, and verify - at night - how the North Star is "in front" of Earth's axis and remains almost fixed, while running the apparent movement of the celestial sphere.

Sundial

Relógio Analemático | Analema é uma linha curva, fechada, resultante da união de vários pontos correspondentes à extremidade da sombra de um objecto, em diferentes horas do dia, ao longo do ano. O "experimentador" colocará os pés sobre um "traço" correspondente ao mês em que fizer a observação, para que a sua sombra atinja uma "escala" em que estão marcadas as horas, podendo assim registar o momento da sua "diversão".

O analema evidencia ainda as diferentes alturas atingidas pelo Sol e os desvios da "hora solar" ao longo do ano, factos que - na abordagem de temas relacionados com as estações do ano e a medição do tempo - podem servir para relacionar áreas diversas da Astronomia, com complexidade adequada aos participantes.

Solar system

Sistema Solar | Representação dos componentes principais do Sistema Solar, sendo apenas respeitada a escala de distâncias entre eles. Para além de tornar evidentes as próximidades dos planetas interiores (aqueles que orbitam entre o Sol e a Cintura de Asteroides), permite ainda perceber o enorme vazio dos espaços em que giram os "gigantes gasosos".

A extrema dificuldade em aplicar aos diâmetros respectivos a mesma escala das distâncias, conduziu à elaboração de exercicios em que os "experimentadores" medem o diâmetro do Sol para - por consulta de placas com inscrições de valores reais - determinarem os diâmetros com que deveria ser representado cada um dos planetas.

Zodiac carousel

Plataforma representando o Sol, a Terra e a Lua. O "experimentador" pressiona um botão que põe em funcionamento um complexo mecanismo que faz rodar a Terra (onde se encontra sentado) sobre si própria, ao mesmo tempoque gira em torno do Sol. Do local onde se encontra, tem a sensação de ser o Sol a deslocar-se relativamente às árvores distantes ou ... aos simbolos de constelações gravados no chão. Simultaneamente, a Lua gira em volta da Terra, sendo respeitada (aproximadamente) a proporcionalidade dos tempos gastos em cada movimento. Este modelo animado permite ao "experimentador" uma observação diferente da dos assistentes, tema que pode sugerir discução aprofundada.

Auditorium

The auditorium has 50 seats, internet, computers and equipment to manipulate and show the images from the telescope on a big screen.

There is a shop that sells souvenirs related to the center.
