Od roku 1702 stoji na ostravském námestí pískovcový sloup se soškou Panny Marie, jehož autorem byl sochar Johannes Hyacint Zelander. Jako vetšina podobných sloupu v historických ceských mestech byl postaven na pamet preckání morové epidemie ve meste na sklonku 17. století. V roce 1960 byl sloup odstranen a nahrazen symbolem revolucních událostí roku 1948 – sochou komunistického milicionáre. Morový sloup byl rozebrán a uložen, nekteré jeho cásti byly nenávratne ztraceny nebo zniceny. K puvodní výzdobe námestí se mesto vrátilo v roce 1992, kdy byl sloup obnoven ve své puvodní podobe, i když nekteré jeho cásti musely být rekonstruovány nebo zcela nahrazeny novými.

Since 1702 stands at Ostrava square sandstone pillar statue of the Virgin Mary, designed by sculptor Johannes Hyacinthus Zelander. Like most similar columns in the historic Czech city was built in memory preckání plague epidemic in the late 17th century. In 1960, the column was removed and replaced with the symbol of the revolutionary events of 1948 - a statue of communist militiaman. Plague Column was dismantled and stored, some parts have been irretrievably lost or destroyed. The original decoration of the town square back in 1992, when the column was restored in its original form, although some parts had to be refurbished or completely replaced.
